Portugal's World Cup preparations got off to a miserable start as they were remarkably held to a goalless draw at home to African minnows Cape Verde.

Portugal, with Cristiano Ronaldo in their team, cannot be dismissed as contenders at World Cup 2010.

Cristiano Ronaldo has said that Portugal's draw with Cape Verde will be etched from memory before the World Cup.

Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz selected a full-strength starting line-up:
Eduardo - Paulo Ferreira (min 68 Miguel), Ricardo Carvalho (min 46 Ricardo Costa), Bruno Alves, Coentrao - Pedro Mendes (min 58 Tiago), Miguel Veloso (min 46 Raul Meireles), Deco (min 58 Danny) - Nani, Liedson (min 46 Hugo Almeida), Cristiano Ronaldo.

The bad news is Tiago was injured and could miss the World Cup.
